My editor was fantastic! And I’m in love with my book cover. But beyond that, working with Tellwell was very easy and I plan on publishing my second book the same way. Traditional publishers are great for some writers, but I just wanted to get my book out there!

Can you tell us about your inspiration for writing Rock Crush and Roll, and how you approached blending the romance genre with the backdrop of the music industry?

I wanted to write a book that I would enjoy reading. I’ve spent my career working in the music industry and the stories are endless!

The protagonist, Tyler Robertson, faces challenges in navigating her relationship with the rock star Cary Kingston while maintaining her professional integrity. How did you develop Tyler’s character, and what aspects of her journey do you think readers will relate to the most?

More than anything, I wanted the MC’s journey to be realistic. I’ve read some novels centred on the music industry and thought, That’s not the way it works! I think readers can relate to a number of themes: long-distance relationships, workplace drama, missing your family, etc. These challenges are not specific to the music industry, so I hope it appeals to everyone who loves romance.

Music plays a significant role in your novel, with over 300 bits of trivia and references woven throughout the narrative. How did you decide which musical elements to include, and what impact do you think they have on the story and its atmosphere?

Writing is super fun for me, so I sprinkled some musical references throughout the book. If you don’t know a lot about music, you probably won’t notice—but if you do, I hope it brightens your day.

What role(s) did you have during your time in the music industry?

I was on the business side of the music industry. That’s all I want to say! I loved seeing bands play at small clubs and go on to play arenas.

Who are your favourite bands and musicians?

I have a million favorite bands/artists and they couldn’t be more different: Led Zeppelin, Prince, INXS, Fleetwood Mac, Patti Smith, The Cars, CCR, Johnny Cash, Daniel Lanois, Rush, The Pretenders, Taylor Swift, QOTSA, PJ Harvey, Jack White, and, of course, Bob Dylan are some of my faves.

In a previous article you mentioned wanting to portray positive relationships with men in your book, particularly highlighting Tyler’s relationship with her father. How did you approach these dynamics, and what message do you hope readers take away from them?

Parents aren’t often mentioned in romance books, but it was important for me to have good men in my story. I think the relationship Tyler has with her father has a lot to do with the type of guy she ends up with.

How did working with Tellwell impact the creation process of your book? And what advice would you give to authors looking to create a book of their own?

First of all, my editor was fantastic! And I’m in love with my book cover. But beyond that, working with Tellwell was very easy and I plan on publishing my second book the same way. Traditional publishers are great for some writers, but I just wanted to get my book out there! I’m so glad I did 🙂

While you don’t have plans for a sequel, you said that your next book will also be a rock ‘n roll romance with a different trope. Can you give us any hints about what readers can expect from your upcoming novel?

The trope of my next book is enemies to lovers, which is my favourite. It’s so much fun to write!
