Can you tell us a little about your role as a book-publishing consultant at Tellwell, and what a typical day looks like for you?

I help aspiring authors take the first steps toward publishing their books. My role involves listening to their stories, understanding their goals, and guiding them through the self-publishing process in a way that feels exciting and manageable.

A typical day includes speaking with authors through calls and emails, answering questions, discussing their book ideas, and helping them understand the support available to them. What I enjoy most is meeting passionate writers from different backgrounds and being part of their publishing journey.

What do you enjoy most about helping authors begin their self-publishing journey?

I enjoy hearing the passion behind every story and helping authors realize that publishing their book is truly possible. Seeing someone gain confidence and excitement about sharing their work is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

Many authors are publishing a book for the first time. What are some of the most common questions or concerns you hear from them?

Many first-time authors worry about whether their manuscript is good enough or where to begin. Common questions are usually about editing, illustrations, copyright, costs, timelines, and how self-publishing works. Most authors simply want reassurance that they’re not alone, so I always try to make the process feel clear, supportive, and approachable.

What’s the most rewarding part of guiding authors through the early stages of publishing their book?

Helping authors build confidence in themselves and their stories. It’s fulfilling to see someone go from feeling unsure to excited and motivated to move forward with their dream.

In your experience, what makes a story or manuscript stand out to you?

Stories that feel genuine and heartfelt always stand out to me. Whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, you can always tell when an author is writing with honesty, passion, and purpose.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors who are thinking about publishing their first book but feel unsure about where to start?

Don’t let fear or perfection hold you back from starting. Every published author was once a beginner. Take things one step at a time, trust the process, and believe that your story matters.

How do you help authors feel more confident and comfortable throughout the publishing process?

I focus on being approachable, patient, and supportive. I make sure authors clearly understand each stage of the process and feel comfortable asking questions, so they know they have guidance every step of the way.

Have there been any memorable author experiences or success stories that really stayed with you?

The most memorable moments are when authors share the personal reasons behind their books—whether it’s to inspire others, leave a legacy, or fulfill a lifelong dream. Seeing them finally become published authors is incredibly rewarding.

What do you think authors are often surprised to learn about the self-publishing journey?

Many authors are surprised that self-publishing is such a collaborative process. They often don’t realize how much support and creative freedom they can have throughout their publishing journey.

Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies or interests that people on the team might not know about?

I enjoy spending time outdoors and staying active. Some of my hobbies include fishing and playing basketball, pickleball, and volleyball. I also enjoy karaoke, something I find really fun and relaxing, especially when spending time with friends and family. I think having hobbies like these helps me recharge and maintain a good balance between work and personal life.
