Meet the Team

Digital marketing expert Scott Friesen gives a behind-the-scenes look at Tellwell

To start, tell us a little bit about yourself and your role at Tellwell.

My name is Scott Friesen and I am big into almost all sports, as well as travelling. My current sports pursuits include padel tennis and disc golf, but I am pretty much down for any sport. I have travelled to over 50 countries in the past ten years, and have worked abroad in countries like France, Spain, Mexico, and Colombia.

I have been a digital marketer for the last eight years and am going on two years working with Tellwell. At Tellwell I manage and assist with all things digital marketing, from online advertising and automation to sales funnels and our newly launched referral program.

Unlike some of our other Meet the Team features, your role is predominantly behind the scenes. Can you tell us what a typical day looks like for you?

The cool thing about Tellwell is that no day is typical. We are always testing and working on new projects to improve our online presence. Most days I will be reviewing our current online initiatives, analyzing the results of current campaigns and optimizing their performance. We are also constantly running new online campaigns. Operating in multiple countries and having so many different services in the self-publishing space truly gives us a large range of possibilities. I also generally spend time helping improve our automation, tracking, and analytics and helping out members of our team with the various software we use to make their jobs easier.

What are some of the projects you’ve been involved with recently that excite you?

Recently we just launched our Author Advocate program, and are nearing our launch for the Ambassador program. These are two super-slick referral programs that allow our authors and members of the Tellwell community to refer their family and friends while getting rewarded with a ton of different gift cards. This project was a lot of fun to work on, and I think it will help to grow the Tellwell community even further.

What is your favourite part of working at Tellwell?

I would say my two favourite parts of working at Tellwell are the entrepreneurial spirit and the workplace culture. We are constantly looking at new ways to help bring on new authors and engage and support our current ones. This opens the door to a lot of creativity and unique projects. Our founder, Tim Lindsay, is receptive to trying new digital marketing campaigns if we see the room for potential. The task variation and constant flow of projects keeps work going at a nice pace.

Chances are, if you’re working at Tellwell you’re a lover of books. What independent reads are on your to-be-read list currently?

Interestingly enough, at the moment I am working on improving my Spanish. Therefore I am attempting to read books I have already read, but in Spanish. The top book I have on my list right now is Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.

What are some of your favourite things to do in your downtime?

Besides travelling any chance I get, I am a huge fan of sports. As mentioned before, I am currently playing a lot of padel tennis and disc golf. However, I also love to play basketball, volleyball, pingpong, tennis, and hockey, and going cycling.
