July’s Stories, July’s Storytellers

This July, we’re happy to celebrate some wonderful moments from our authors. From being featured in the news to receiving kind words in book reviews, book awards, and joining book events, it’s been a month full of meaningful highlights.

We love seeing their stories reach more people and their hard work recognized in new ways. These moments—big or small—deserve to be shared and celebrated.

Take a look at a few of the special shoutouts and public milestones that made this month one to remember.

Awards

Jeremy Durgana’s inspiring memoir, Mighty Joe Mui, has earned two awards at the International Impact Book Awards: Autobiography: Overcoming Adversity, and Memoir: Inspirational Memoirs.

The book follows the remarkable journey of Joe Mui from a difficult childhood in rural China to playing NCAA Division I soccer and earning a place at Cornell University. It’s a powerful story of resilience, determination, and hope.

As a teacher, actor, and musician, Durgana brings depth and heart to Joe’s story, turning real-life challenges into a moving and unforgettable read.

Tellwell author John Fuller was recently featured in the Vancouver Sun for his new book, Fame, Fortune & Fear, which explores the dramatic life of Con Jones, an Australian fugitive who became a major figure in B.C.’s early sports scene.

The biography traces Jones’s journey from a betting scandal in Sydney to building a legacy as a sports promoter in Vancouver, best known for Con Jones Park and his role in popularizing lacrosse and soccer. Fuller’s in-depth research brings new light to a largely forgotten but fascinating chapter of Canadian sports history.

Poet and veteran Kathryn Carlisle was recently featured in Burdekin Life for her debut poetry collection, Feathers and Flame: Poetry of Australian Landscapes and Personal Transformation, published by Tellwell.

The collection includes the locally inspired piece Burdekin Snow, an updated version of a poem previously shared in the publication. Drawing on nearly four decades of service in the Royal Australian Navy and Air Force, Carlisle weaves themes of grief, growth, and renewal into reflections on both the Australian landscape and her personal journey.

Events

Tellwell author Alison Williams recently held a book signing at Coles Bookstore in Lambton Mall, Sarnia, Ontario, to celebrate the release of Shadow of the Djinn, the final book in her five-part Witch’s Foundling series.

What started as an exploration of Gaslamp Fantasy grew into a layered story filled with witches, werewolves, demons, and secret societies. Blending gothic atmosphere with adventure, the series follows characters facing love, duty, and the challenges of growing up and finding their place.

With Shadow of the Djinn, Williams wraps up a series that has captured the imagination of readers who enjoy dark fantasy and emotionally grounded storytelling.

Tellwell author and Canadian physician Dr. Mark Tyndall recently hosted a talk and book signing in Warsaw, highlighting key messages from his new book, Vaping: Behind the Smoke and Fears.

In the book, Tyndall presents a powerful argument for vaping as a life-saving alternative to smoking. With over a billion smokers worldwide at risk of early death, he explains how vaping delivers nicotine without the harmful byproducts of burning tobacco. Despite this, public health agencies and policymakers continue to oppose it, often driven by misinformation and fear.

Drawing on his decades of experience in harm reduction and public health, Tyndall urges a shift toward science-based, compassionate approaches. Vaping: Behind the Smoke and Fears challenges the current narrative—and calls for solutions that could save millions of lives.

Reviews

Tellwell author Tony Cond is gaining recognition for his debut book Rigged, which was recently featured in a positive review by Reader Views. The review praised the book’s structure and storytelling, noting how it balances humor, heart, and reflection.

Tony Cond’s love for his family, for sailing, and for Rufus is undeniable, and often contagious. Rigged is a loving, sometimes laugh-out-loud celebration of family, nostalgia, and the quirky character of one very special wooden boat and the humans she undeniably owns.
